History

Here is a small history about our cheesefarm "Jongenhoeve" at Bergambacht.
In 1916, Leendert Boer from Beyerse bought this farm for his son Gerrit and his daughter in law Jacoba Elisabeth Schouten from Gouderak. Because he had another two sons, they came in Bergambacht. It was a very big building with three livingparts and with fourteen bedrooms.

Because it was very old and poor, they build a new farm in 1924. The stable and the cheese-room were still used and they made in summer cheese.

After the cows are milked in the morning, all the milk is in the cheese-tub. To the milk is added milksourbacterials and curdle. The curdle causes the milk is going thick, so it is possible to cut it in small pieces. We call these little pieces 'wrongel' and the liquid that is remained, is 'wei'.

In 1938, daughter Grietje Cornelia married Floor de Jong from Bovenberg and they continued the farm. Floor de Jong was beside farmer also cattle-obstetrician, so he was especially in spring, many times on the way to deliver cows, sheeps and goats if there were problems.

In 1945, just after World War II, aunt Pie Slob came for assistance at our farm, and she is still here. Because there was a lot of sickness in the family, she was indispensable.
After a lot of years, Floor and Grieta became a son: Leendert Gerardus. He continued the farm of his parents in 1973 and married that year Klazina Snoek.

The cheesefarm was sleeping for a couple of years, but in 1975 started again by Leen and Ineke. They made only cheese in summer. When the three children, Margriet, Floor and Lianne, grew up, they made cheese the whole year.

They also started a cheese-shop on the farm, and gradually there came also tourists. Son Floor married in 2002 his Evelyne Theodora van Everdingen.
Together we like to recieve you at our cheese-farm, which is totally renewed in 2004, and where it is a big pleasure to work!
